Inspiration

The Total Solar Eclipse Collection

Long before clocks measured the passing of hours, the people of the North looked to the sky.
The changing seasons, the midnight sun, the northern lights, the stars, and the movements of the Moon guided life in Iceland for generations. The sky was both a calendar and a storyteller, marking the passage of time through light and darkness.
Among the rarest of these celestial events is a total solar eclipse..

For a few extraordinary moments, day becomes twilight. Familiar landscapes are transformed. The Sun disappears behind the Moon, and time itself seems to pause.

On August 12, 2026, the shadow of the Moon will cross Iceland, creating one of the most remarkable natural spectacles many of us will ever witness.

The idea for this collection was first brought to JS Watch Company Reykjavik by Icelandic astronomy educator and science communicator Sævar Helgi Bragason, better known in Iceland as "Stjörnu-Sævar." For decades, Sævar has inspired people to explore the night sky through his lectures, books, television appearances, and public stargazing events. Having witnessed total solar eclipses around the world and devoted much of his life to sharing the beauty and science of the universe, he approached us with the idea of creating a watch to commemorate this extraordinary event.

Together, we set out to design a timepiece that would capture not only the science of the eclipse, but also the emotion and wonder of witnessing one of nature's rarest spectacles. The result is a collection created through a shared passion for craftsmanship, astronomy, and Icelandic nature.

To commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime event, JS Watch Company Reykjavik proudly presents the Total Solar Eclipse Collection.
Hand-assembled in Reykjavik and powered by a Swiss mechanical movement, the collection is offered in three colours inspired by the eclipse and the Icelandic landscape.

Black, representing the darkness of totality.
Ruby Red, inspired by the remarkable colours that appear along the horizon as daylight fades and returns.
Blue, reflecting the deep Icelandic sky before and after the Moon's shadow passes overhead.

The 17 and 48 on the dial are subtly highlighted in pink, marking 17:48, the moment when the total solar eclipse reaches totality over Reykjavik. The pink accents were chosen in collaboration with Sævar, inspired by the beautiful pink solar prominences that often become visible around the edge of the Moon during totality, together with the breathtaking Baily's Beads and Diamond Ring effect that signal the arrival of the eclipse.

Each colour is limited to just 50 pieces worldwide.

Like the eclipse itself, these watches are rare, fleeting, and impossible to repeat.
Created at the edge of the North Atlantic beneath the same skies that have inspired Icelanders for centuries, and designed in collaboration with one of Iceland's leading astronomy communicators, the Total Solar Eclipse Collection is a tribute to the enduring connection between time, nature, and the heavens above.

A total solar eclipse over Iceland is an event that few people will ever have the opportunity to witness. While the Moon's shadow passes in only a matter of minutes, its memory can last a lifetime.

This collection was created to preserve that moment in time.
