Fraternitas Islandica

The Fraternitas Islandica, meticulously crafted at the request of the Icelandic Freemason organization.

Fraternitas Islandica

The Fraternitas Islandica (Icelandic Brotherhood) is an automatic mechanical watch, meticulously crafted at the request of the Icelandic Freemason organization. Rooted in tradition and laden with symbolic significance, this timepiece stands as a testament to the timeless values of brotherhood, integrity, and enlightenment.

Central to the Fraternitas Islandica is a striking white glossy dial, adorned with silver-raced numerals that reflect the sacred teachings of Freemasonry. A vivid red Knights Templar cross graces the dial, symbolizing unity and fraternity. The watch's design is replete with symbolism, inviting discovery and interpretation by those versed in its mysteries.

Encased in robust steel with a 38.5mm diameter, the Fraternitas Islandica features a Swiss-made 'Execution Top' mechanical movement. This includes automatic winding, 25 jewels, and blue screws, all showcased through a sapphire crystal case back that reveals the rhodium-plated finish and the precision of its craftsmanship.

The dial's unique numeral arrangement denotes different degrees within the Masonic hierarchy, with special emblems like the RK (Riddara Kross) at the 11th hour and markers at 4 and 5 are positioned closer together, symbolizing that in Icelandic Freemasonry, steps 4 and 5 are taken simultaneously. The crown is distinguished by a red Knights Templar cross, symbolising dedication to Masonic principles, and flame-blued hands remind wearers of the continuous quest for knowledge.

Drawing inspiration from the Icelandic national flag, the colours of the Fraternitas Islandica’s face and hands, red, white, and blue not only pay tribute to its origins but also embody the universal tenets of Freemasonry. This watch is more than a timekeeper; it’s a celebration of rich Masonic heritage and a symbol of the enduring bonds of brotherhood and enlightenment that Freemasonry fosters across the globe.

Chivalry and Brotherhood:
Freemasonry's Legacy of Jacques de Molay

Jacques de Molay, the final Grand Master of the Knights Templar, is honoured in Freemasonry as a symbol of martyrdom and defiance. Despite the lack of historical evidence, Masonic tradition reveres him for his unwavering resolve against persecution. De Molay's legacy inspires Freemasons, embodying fidelity and resistance against tyranny. The red Knights Templar cross, emblematic of the Templars, is used in Masonic symbolism to evoke principles of chivalry, charity, and brotherhood. Freemasonry itself emerged gradually over centuries from the medieval stonemasons' guilds, eventually evolving into an organized fraternity with the formation of the first Grand Lodge in London in 1717. From there, Freemasonry spread rapidly throughout Europe and eventually to other parts of the world, becoming the diverse and widespread organization that it is today.
