Inspiration

Master watchmaker Gilbert Ó Guðjónsson

The Islandus 45 Years Anniversary Edition, created in celebration of Gilbert’s 45th work anniversary as a Watchmaker. Inspired by the foundations of the watchmaking tradition which the JS brand has built on and celebrating the 45 years of non-stop craftsmanship of Master Watchmaker Gilbert Ó Gudjonsson and his Watchmaking expertise that has reflected a strong devotion to tradition, elegance and performance on the JS brand, the JS team has created a Special Anniversary Edition Timepiece to honor him.

Gilbert Ó Guðjónsson was born and raised in Reykjavik City, he had an interest in mechanics from a young age, and Watchmaking has therefore been the perfect career for him. His first encounter with watches was in 1966 when he signed up for an apprenticeship with a provincial watchmaker in Reykjavik and started studying watchmaking in the Technical school of Reykjavik. On completion of his apprenticeship in 1970 he worked at this provincial watch repair shop before opening his own workshop in 1977.

Gilbert has over 45 years of experience in the watch industry working as an independent Watchmaker and a Master Watchmaker for JS Watch co. Reykjavik which is the first and only Watch Manufacturer in Iceland. He was honored by being nominated Icelandic Craftsman of the year in 2009 and in February  2014, the Gilbert Workshop and JS Watch Company Reykjavik won the prestigious ‘Shop of the Year’ award (Njarðarskjöldurinn).

The watch is designed by the JS team in Reykjavik Iceland and all parts are crafted in Germany and Switzerland by nine esteemed companies that have been specializing in creating cases, movements, dials, hands, straps etc. for some of the world's leading watch brands for many decades, while also enjoying a reputation for the highest quality production from only the best materials available. We then hand assemble every single watch with a profound respect for traditional watchmaking in our workshop in Reykjavik, Iceland. There the watchmaker's hand and a highly trained eye are the most vital tools used.

JS Watch co. Reykjavik is one of the world's smallest watch manufacturers, yet our constant effort to meet our collectors 'and watch enthusiasts' needs has virtually no limits.
