Flame Blued Hands, inspired by the old masters.

Today we start offering Flame Blued Hands for our 44mm Islandus model. Flame Blueing the hands is an extremely difficult and delicate procedure. In true bluing, no chemicals are used, just the heat from a flame. If the hands are held in the flame too long, the steel shoots passed blue and becomes a brown/bronze color and will have to be discarded. It takes a practiced eye and the experience of a Craftsman to get the timing just right, only experience determines the exact duration of the treatment. Machines can't do it-- current robots and software simply don't have the "eye" for this type of work. Even with experienced watchmakers doing the work, the failure rate for producing blue hands can be as high as 75%. That's why blued hands are only found in higher priced watches, and everyone else uses chemically blued or plastic hands. Now our customers can have their Breuget hands Blued in the same way the old masters did it centuries ago.
